goldfish trauma

My kids' school is at the top of a winding hill. To get home, they take a green minibus down the hill where it drops them off at a giant mall. From this mall, they hop on a red double-decker bus that brings them home. In total, it's about an hour commute. More on their commute another day...
Because it's such a long trip home, they often stop at the mall for a snack, and their snack of choice is often sushi.
One day, my daughter was sitting at the table eating sushi when she looked up at the people across from her. On the table next to the plates of sushi sat a pet goldfish in a clear plastic bag full of water fresh from the pet store.
The irony seemed to be lost on the new pet owners as they stuffed their mouths full of raw fish while their newest family member watched in horror, lips puckered and eyes bulged.
I can't think of anything more traumatic.
