a snake in my laundry room

Our laundry "room" is outside at the back of the house. That's pretty typical here in Hong Kong. If you are lucky enough to have a house that is. If you're in an apartment, like most Hong Kong-ers, you hang your clothes outside the window or on your balcony. If you're lucky enough to have one of those.
When we first moved here, we went back to look at the laundry room and there was a meter-long snake slithering on the ground by the dryer.
It hurried and slithered away once it heard us.
But still. A meter-long snake.
I don't think it was poisonous.
But still. A meter-long snake.
I haven't seen one since, and it's because I've learned the secret: the laundry-stomp.
The laundry-stomp is simply me, in my Crocs, stomping as loud as I can while I walk back to do laundry in order to scare any snakes away.
So far, it seems to be fool-proof.
