"PTSD Is" is a series exploring the realities of life with PTSD.
PTSD is physical. Your body remembers the trauma, and until your body can process the trauma, it stays with you. PTSD pain screams for attention when you least expect it.
It's sitting in the car, waiting for the light to turn, trying to ignore the burning. Or sitting at church, listening to the sermon, trying to ignore the aching. Or lying in bed, unable to sleep because of the throbbing .
It's "all in your head" but it's so very real. And the only way to get it out of your head - and out of your body - is to process what happened.
So if my eyes ever look hollow, I'm likely feeling pain. Or if I seem like I'm somewhere else, the pain is likely pulling me away. Or if I suddenly disappear into another room, I'm likely trying to regain composure.
PTSD pain is unrelenting. It's your body insisting that the trauma be heard.
It's past You asking for help.
